The story:

It didn't make much sense to me when I first heard it, but I was twelve and thought the music sounded great, so I didn't really care. I found out my mistake when my mother and I were driving somewhere and the song came on the radio. I loved it, so I started singing along. I belted out my version, and my mother started laughing so hard she had to pull over to the side of the road. She corrected my mistake, but what had really gotten her was the passionate conviction with which I'd sung this ode to the legal profession. She sings 'the lawyer song' as it's become known in our house whenever she cleans the kitchen. I don't know why.
