The story:
I always heard/sang this song wrong until my friends girlfriend patiently explained to me that a "dead president" was paper money, so named because of the pictures on the bills. The really embarrassing part is that I had no idea why she explained all of this to me and I didn't "get" what it had to do with the song - until a year later. It took that long to sink in. I still sing it wrong even though I know better.
