The story:

I was doing research on the civil war, which this song is about, and came across the lyrics to this song. I'd always liked the song growing up, but didn't know who sang it or what the name of it was. Once I read the lyrics, I realized how terribly, terribly wrong I was.

As a side note, at least I didn't misquote the lyrics for profit. (Hint, hint, Joan.)
