I heard Natalie Maines talk about this on Jay Leno one evening...
Apparently, a fan sent her an angry letter confronting her about her hatred for the state of Ohio. He wondered if it was really necessary for the Dixie Chicks to criticize Ohio in the chorus of their song "Wide Open Spaces". Natalie said that she and her bandmates had a good laugh about that letter and now every time they sing the song in concert, they want to just blast out with "OHIOOOOOO STINKSSSSS" in place of the real lyrics as a tribute to that angry fan.
Personally, from here on out, I continue to sing "Ohio Stinks" in every round of the chorus.
