I realized, much to my disappointment, that I heard this wrong when I actually looked up the lyrics one day after hearing the song over the internet. I was in my early teens when the song came out, so, being a hormonally stressed guy at the time, what I heard seemed perfectly reasonable, and seemed to fit. And I still do, even though I'm almost 50!
