(Actually, I myself didn't mishear this lyric this way - my friend Chris Volkmann's sister did.) The same day I found out from my roommate that how I was hearing the lyric (as "pen in my eye") was incorrect, she told me our friend Chris' sister had always misconstrued the lyric, too, in an attempt to console me.
