The story:

We were singing christmas carol's in church one christmas eve when my husband began singing because he recognized the song, I had to stop singing when I heard what he was singing, afterwards I asked him how the song went and he repeated it. When I laughed and told him what it really said and asked how he could have thought it was pumpher he stated that ever since 5th grade that was how he had sung it, he didn't know what pumpher was but figured it was one of the holy oils or some kind of incense. He agreed comfort and joy made much more sense but still argues that when most people sing it the words get mumbled or jumbled and sound like pumpher to him.
