Manimal

The story:

It was 1989, I was 18, and had been going to a heavy metal club for a few months and singing happily along with the song in front of my new boyfriend and his older friends. Then I read an issue of 'Kerang!', which referenced Van Halen's 'Panama', and I realised with hideous clarity that the song I'd assumed had some strange tangental link to the early 1980s series 'Manimal', starring Simon McCorkindale, actually had nothing to do with it. I checked the mirror to see how my mouth looked when singing "Manimal" and "Panama" over and over again, and I think I had got away with it. However, for over a year, every time that song came on, I blushed furiously and felt an utter fool.
