I had always thought this song related to a group of men in shining armour with big white capes made of satin, billowing behing them as they rode on their horses. The second verse in the song even confirmed to me that they were on a long journey but never quite getting there... I was in a shop where they had a sign with the title written on. I was about to tell someone that they had misspelt the word "knights" by missing out the "k" when the huge realisation that I had got it wrong for 30+ years actually hit me.
