My friend told me the Beatles had been to India on a spiritual pilgrimage, and wrote Across the Universe because of this. I asked him what that song had to do with spiritualism. He said John Lennon's personal chant was in it ... and he sang it to me. That's when I realised what the line was, nothing to do with Jackaroos called Davo :)
