The story:

I had heard the song several times, and had come up with several "alternative" versions of the line, trying to make sense of it. One morning I was singing it at work, and my boss, who is a huge Macy Gray fan, started laughing at "my" version and started to call other people to tell them what I thought the song had said. I was mostly embarrassed by the fact that the real lyrics were so easy to hear then next time. The real lyrics fit the song better, even though my version is funnier!
