When I first started downloading karaoke files in
Nov. 2002, my girlfriend asked for "Love Potion
#9", and I was quite surprised to see the "Ruth /
Tooth" rhyme. However, glancing around the
Internet for lyrics, one sees that Madame R is
sometimes "Rue" and sometimes "Ruth". I think
this is due to bad diction by the two groups, The
Searchers, and the Clovers, where the "th" on either
version is inaudible. Took me 44 years to find out.
