The story:

I always wondered whether I'd heard the lyrics correctly, `never could understand the rock and roll reason for skidding on a piece' nor why it'd have eyes.

If I was with others whenever the song came on the radio I'd ask about the lyrics and they'd always laugh but could never give me the proper words.

I had to wait for the internet to come along before I thought to search for the real lyrics ...and then it all made sense.
