I just finally figured out what he was saying a couple minutes ago. All these years I've sung my version. Since I wasn't positive what he was saying, I would intentionally garble my voice on that part. Nobody ever reacted like I was wrong, so either they couldn't tell what I said, or they thought that was what he said too.
