The story:
Like I knew the song was supposed to be tragic and all, but I thought that lyric was just really morbid. But, I figured that not all songs have to make sense so I didn't think about it. Just today, I took the lyric pamphlet out of the record jacket and started singing along to the song, when I got to that line I kind of just paused and laughed to myself. Lucky, no one was around when it happened. My version makes more sense anyway.
