Actually, this is the fault of Phil Jupitus on Never Mind the Buzzc**ks. When playing the round where teams have to decipher the lyrics to a song, he came up with this line, following the one about "transparent dangling carrots" as part of a menu.
It was a joke, but it's stuck in my head ever since.
