The story:

Singing along in the car and my roommate turned to me with a look of amused incredulity to ask, "What did you say??"

When she told me the real lyrics I could only blink and say, "Well, yeah, I guess that makes a lot more sense."

Then again, given the era in which the song it was written, it did seem entirely realistic that the singer would try to ride a beagle.
