The story:
I was at a party at graduate school and we were all drinking and singing this song rather late at night. A fellow partier next to me heard me singing my version (as I had sung it since I was about 10 years old) and howled with laughter. He shared it with the rest of the party--and then 20 or so people also shrieked with laughter . . . thank goodness I was too drunk to be terribly embarrassed. I later received a birthday card from this person with all my misheard lyrics carefully copied out in calligraphy!
