The story:

After years of listening heavily to Dylan, I finally bought his book, Lyrics 1962-1985. While reading through "Tangled Up in Blue," I was shocked to see the real lyric. It was so . . . boring. I asked my best friend, another Dylan head, and he had heard the same thing I had. We had both imagined Dylan to be better than he was on this line.
