Actually, it was my husband who misheard this lyric. One day he mentioned that the "Maid Marian" part was his favorite part of the song. I said (in a tone of amazed sarcasm) "What"!? He said "you know, the part that says I see Maid Marian walking away". Like in some Robin-Hood-esque dream. I said "that's not what it says". He said it was his favorite part of the song and if that's not what it says, I should not "ruin it" for him and tell him what it really said. I said fine. He still doesn't know. And I'm not going to tell him.
