The story:
Witnesses knew immediately, but the perpetrator never did. These occurred in a conversation with a friend around 1975. They were HIS mishearings, and everyone in the room just stopped talking and stared. Then he said, "What's wrong with that? 'Clowns' makes just as much sense as 'clouds'!"
