The story:
I always thought that that didn't make any sense whatsoever. Then I heard my dad singing along with it on the radio one day and it sounded like he had said what I thought it was I figured that that was that. Then I found this website one day and was laughing at all the misheard lyrics. That's when I came across a different version of the same misheard lyric in this song and for the first time saw the real lyrics.

This is what I've always heard listening to this song, too. Considering the song has some pretty nonsensical lyrics anyway, it didn't seem like that much of a stretch.
