The story:
It was 1988, I was 15, in my backyard with my brother and my friend, who I had a crush on and was trying to impress by singing a Beatles song. I yelled out "He's the black writer, writer, writer!" They turned and looked and me and say "What!" And could not stop laughing. I wished then (unknowingly) for Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.
