This was the first Bowie song I ever heard and I immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately it was my dad's LP version and didn't come with the lyrics. I never doubted my version's authenticity until I bought my own copy on CD, which came with a lyrics booklet. I wasn't embarrassed, just disappointed. My version sounded so much more poetic and to me, made much more sense. I had imagined that lyric to be about Bowie luring someone into a fantasy world and then apologising because she wasn't ready yet. The real version is much duller.
