The story:
I was listening to the song with my brother and I started singing along without realizing it. My brother gave me a very confused look. I asked him what, and he started and said "I wish I WAS Jessie's girl?"
I nodded and said "Yeah, those are the lyrics."
He nodded, and said "Uh-huh. And why would Rick Springfield wish he was Jessie's girl?" Of course hoping to make me realize my error.
I thought for a moment, and then looked at him and said, "He's gay?"
This of course made my brother laugh. When he finally was able to talk again he pointed out that it was "I wish I HAD Jessie's girl"
