In the 70's my older sister, who was about 16 at the time, listened to her Rolling Stones albums frequently and allowed me, her dorky kid sister, to listen in also. Everytime I heard this song (I was probably about 12) I honestly thought Mick Jagger was saying "shimmy nimmy nommy" instead of the phrase "can't you hear me knocking". My sister had a couple of her teenage friends over to listen to albums, and they heard me loudly singing "shimmy nimmy nommy" to the song, and ridiculed me heartily. So much for my "cool" factor.
