The story:

I saw VH-1's Pop-Up Video telling
how the idea for the song came to
Dire Straits, after one of the
members had heard someone in an
appliance store complaining about
how rock stars got all this money for
nothing and (pay)checks for free,
while they had to do real work
installing microwave ovens and
moving refrigerators. After seeing
that, I realized what the real lyrics
were.
