The story:

My best friend heard me singing it that way...and burst out into hysterical laughter. You would've thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard. After she contained herself, she told me the proper lyric. I was very embarassed because I have been a Monkees fan for life, and was sure that I knew all of their lyrics. We still make jokes about the screw-up now.
