Jesus hates fornication

The story:

Tom, a guy I work with, came up to me one day while "Californication" was playing on the radio and he said "Gee, this is sure a weird song, eh?" I looked at Tom and inquired as to what he meant. Tom proceeded to sing along with his rendition of "Jesus hates fornication" and I nearly died laughing. "Although that may be true", I said, "That is not what the song is about."
(I wonder if the line "teenage bride with a baby inside" reinforced his false idea of the song's meaning!)
