Ah, potato salad, 'tato... salad, 'tato

The story:

I went with a friend to a record store. While we were there this song came over the house stereo. I'd already heard (and hated) this song and knew what it said. My friend had never heard it before and was grooving on it. When we got out to the car he said, "It's a good song but why is he so passionate about potato salad?" I asked him to sing what he heard. It took me 5 minutes to stop laughing before I could explain it.
