The story:

I knew the lyric wasn't right, but I also didn't know what it really was. No internet to look it up and I didn't have the tape so I would turn it WAY up when it came on the radio and try to figure out what they were saying. I couldn't get it but I was always hungry for pie after hearing the song! Years later, my brain started to use more of it's capacity and I finally heard the "see my Marianne walking away" in another verse. It clicked that in my verse they were talking about a girl too not a granny smith! I felt ridiculous, but I still had a craving for some pie!
