I could never figure out how one person (Brenda Renetti...) could be a couple (...were the popular steadies and the King and the Queen of the Prom). Was she schizo?? My wife was singing the song one day and it STILL sounded that way even when she sang it. It was only after I looked up the lyrics on the internet that I figured it out. I think it sounds that way because Billy Joel pronounces Brenda with a Brooklyn (or is it Jersey?)accent "Brender" that leads right into "Eddie", hence "Brender n' Eddie = Brenda Renetti"
