When I heard the cover by (Smashmouth?). At first I thought they must have it wrong, not because my version was right, but because the "correct" version was so far off of what I had heard. After all, Joan Baez turned "There goes Robert E. Lee" into "There goes the Robert E. Lee" when she covered "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band, so who's to know? However, over time I reluctantly relinquished by teeniebopper earsight, and gave up to the joke.
