    Brother Harold's paradigm

    Artist: Bing Crosby
Real Lyric: Brother, can you spare a dime?

    The story:

A colleague phoned to ask me if I would perform this song with her in a concert we were preparing: as there was no print music available, I would need to improvise a clarinet part to her vocals. That was fine with me. However, though familiar with the depression-era song "Brother, can you spare a dime?" (also sung as "Buddy, can you spare a dime?") I told her that I didn't recognize the song (without repeating the title over the phone, or the mis-hearing would have been revealed instantly). I later emailed her a message that, though I had searched diligently, I couldn't find any reference to a song entitled "Brother Harold's Paradigm".
