The story:
When I was a kid, I imagined he was walking in the inner city where gases sometimes raise out of the sewers. I thought that he was being cheeky and smelling "gas"perations while walking. Then recently, I was listening to the song online and decided to look up the lyrics too. I laughed so hard when I realized that the lyric was rather mature and appropriate for the context of the song.
