This misheard lyric is actually not a mistake of mine but of my 80% deaf in one ear dad's. He, even now after years of being proved absolutely wrong, persists in his life-long belief that his lyrics are correct. The song, What's The Matter Here? by the 10,000 Maniacs, is about a young boy, so in a way his lyrics make sense. But Natalie Merchant is describing her relationship to the boy geographically, not the boy's distant personality as my father believes. He has continued to sing along (quite loudly I might add) to his version of the song, no matter how much my mother or I try to convince him he's totally and completely incorrect. And now, he has ME singing the wrong lyrics as well. So maybe this is my misheard lyric also. : )
