When I first heard those lyrics, I thought The Eagles were being mean to the Kennedy family. Not only were they bringing up a scandal, but that poor girl was killed in the accident. Years later my husband (then, boyfriend) and I were driving around when that song came on the radio. I told him I thought it was pretty tactless to use such a tragedy as a song lyric. He had no clue what I was talking about, of course. Now when I hear the song, I can't believe I misunderstood the line.
