The story:

I had thought for about 20 years that the song included the above incorrect lyrics. Luckily, I discovered my mistake entirely on my own. I was looking through a songbook that included the song, and saw what the correct word was. This was a couple of years ago -- I don't remember exactly when (probably because I didn't discover my mistake by singing the lyrics and having someone laughingly correct me, that would have stuck in my mind for sure!)
