My brother, who is four years older than me, absolutely worshipped Elton John in the 70's. I was about ten years old when I first heard this song and my lyrics made sense to me. He's a guy who's tired of going into space and he's lost sight of God, faith and heaven. I figured the man was in the midst of a deep existential quandry that had wrecked his spiritual well-being. I realize now that I spent way, way too much time thinking about song lyrics as a ten year old. When I found out the real lyrics I was disappointed because I thought my version was much deeper and meaningful.
