As a kid, I'd heard of leprosy. I was aware that it wasn't very nice at all. The poor man singing the song had been left by his 'Baby' whilst in agony from degeneration. Heartless bitch.
I recall being told the joke about the leper failing his driving test because "he left his foot on the accelerator" at primary school. I was therefore astounded that poor Billy Ocean, whilst suffering from this awful disease, had made it to the top of the charts.
So, imagine my suprise when he released 'When the going gets tough'
With the benefit of hindsight I did indeed feel a little foolish. My respect for Mr Ocean dwindled and I realised that what I had thought was an anthem that gave hope to millions of sufferers, was actually a nauseating load of tosh.
