I was listening to this song with my friend Andrew Molvar, and I heard him sing it the right way. I stupidly tried to correct him, and he pointed out that the word, "earth" is usually not pronounced with a sharp, distinct "b" sound at the beginning.
I felt even stupider than usual at this point. How embarrassing!
