The story:
I was 6. My name is Mary. Our family songbook had a black-and-white print of holiday merrymakers dancing around the wassil bowl etched above the lyrics. I was certain that the girl in the picture, wearing ribbons in her hair, was Mary Measure. To be certain, I asked my mom. My family is most unforgiving of honest mistakes.
