The story:
Just today, actually. I heard it on my way to work this morning, and as I was about to belt out that crucial high note, it hit me that I had never been entirely sure of the lyric. Luckily, no one was in the car with me at the time! I had always figured that the guy was saying that he will stay gone "until he wants to..." but the real lyrics make so much more sense!
