The story:
I had the radio on in the car and was listening with my 16 year old brother singing along in the passenger seat. When I heard him sing that line, I turned down the volume and said, "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY???" He actually argued with me that running down the drain was correct until I was able to find the lyrics on the CD liner notes. He was absolutely positive that he was correct, and that Tom Petty was running down a drain.
