The story:

Just checked the lyrics on the internet. I always thought it was "golfing child" because the singer's voice is hard to understand and most of the other lines are pretty indistinct as well. Turns out that the lyrics - from a lyrics website - actually make sense and are not nonsense rhymes like I've thought for the past 24 years! I used to think it was about a pub [the "church"] full of music journalists.
