The story:
Although I knew that couldn't possibly be what Sting was singing, that's exactly what the words sounded like to me. (Made sense too--skeleton = dry bones = dust, you know?) A few years later I saw a copy of the lyrics and finally found out exactly what that doggone skeleton was really choking on.
