The story:
Just now! I posted a comment on YouTube (to the cover of this song by sElf) asking if Michael McDonald had invented the word nostalgite (which I thought was a combination of "nostalgia" and "naivete") in this song. Then I thought, wait a minute, perhaps that is not the real lyric! A quick Google later and I am proved wrong. I still think my interpretation makes sense in the context of the song - dude is both nostalgic and naive.
