The story:
I was furious at John for making fun of Yoko. Then I wondered how she got sideburns, and who else had them. I had been singing this out loud for a while, but nobody corrected me....I was looking at lyrics and realized that I was wrong. But then 'sideboard' reminded me of the backboard lifeguards use to save people.

I read it somewhere in a Beatles book a while ago. . . I'm not sure if it was Lennon himself who said that, or someone else. They may have been wrong, though!
