It was actually my friend's father who misheard the lyric. My friend and I were working up the song for our Jr. High garage band when his father questioned the lyric, saying "I thought it was 'I'd rather dance with your mother' ". We later worked up a Beatles spoof for a comedy act and used that lyric! I never convinced anyone that it was the real lyric, but I did recently convince my daughter that John Fogarty was saying "There's a bathroom on the right" in Bad Moon Rising.
