I kept thinking to myself....what the hell does a douche have to do with rumors??? I asked a friend and she laughed so hard she turned purple.

I also thought it was "wrapped up like a douche" (until this very minute) followed by "you know the roamer in the night" I thought a douche must be some kind of zombie creature.

I thought it was "Revved up like a douche, another Rommer in the night. When I was in Germany, there was a brand of helmet called a Rommer, and the insignia was a lighthouse. Still it really didn't make sense to me.

For years I always thought these lyrics were: Wrapped up like a douche Another odor in the night Those lyrics sound more like what I hear in the song and make more sense.

Yes...a deuce coupe...which is 1932 Ford, especially one that has been "souped up". Still its a very esoteric reference even if you are from Jersey.

Deuce is also known as a deuce coupe, like in the Beach Boys song. To rev a deuce means you're revving up your car. :)

What's appropriate is that the Manfred Mann version doesn't make sense anyway, so why not "wrapped up like a douche?" The original (Springsteen) lyrics were "cut loose like a deuce".

To be honest, when I was about 12 I saw the Kids in the Hall skit about this song. I had never heard it before so I didnt have any idea what they were arguing about. When I did finally hear the song, I also heard rolled up like a douche, another roller in the night.

To be fair that is what you heard. Manfred made a mistake with the lyrics, yes the orginal lyrics by Springsteen had nothing to do with douches. However that is how it was redone by Manfred. So you heard it write if you were indeed listening to Manfred Mann, if you were listening to Springsteen however; you misheard ^^

does anyone else realize they have the wrong artist, Bruce Springsteen originally wrote and sang this song, he did a much better job too, i hope to never hear chopsticks played in a rock song again, and that isnt even the worst part about this song
